Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
When language and speech impairments, like aphasia, apraxia and dysarthria, make communicating difficult, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools can be used to support, or provide an alternative to, spoken communication.
These systems can be a temporary communication solution while natural speech and language is improving, or may be a permanent mode of communication for their users. AAC systems ensure that the user is able to participate successfully in social situations in the home, community and/or workplace.
